Bibliographies

This post is to show I have an understanding of how to present bibliographies by use of examples.

Caillois, R (1958) "The Definition of Play" (eds) Salen, K and Zimmerman, E, The Game Design Reader: A Rules of Play Anthology, MIT Press, Cambridge, pp 123-128

Crummy, P. (2007) “The Gaming Board in CF47: The remains as found, possible reconstructions and post-depositional movements” in Crummy, P. Benfield, S. and Crummy, N. (2007) Stanway: An Elite Burial Site at Camulodunum. Britannia Monograph Series No. 24. London. Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies. pp 352-359.

Oxland, K (2004) Gameplay and Design, Addison Wesley, Essex

Schell, J (2008) The Art of Game Design: A Book of Lenses, CRC Press, Florida

  1. Where there is scope for ambiguity over the city of publication -- and books published by the MIT Press in Cambridge are a great example -- it's good to provide some clarification by including the standard two-letter abbreviation for the American state, in this example, the abbreviation would be "MA".

It may also be helpful to indicate the date of Caillois's work in square brackets eg: [1958] to distinguish it from the 2006 publication date of the the Salen & Zimmerman reader.

It isn't usual to give only the American state or the English county as the place though: if you check the Schell and Oxland items again, you should be able to find the city.

  2. Hi Niall,

Don't forget to update the bibliography with a journal article retrieved using the Summon search tool and make any necessary amendments to the other entries.
